Christmas on the Prado
December 4, 2004 | Category: blog, old website posts
Balboa Park’s December Nights event was fun. All these countries had their little cottages/tents set-up with their foods speciality or what not. I’m not very open-minded with food but I thought that was pretty much the food selection as we didn’t have a program on us.
The Mexicans screwed us over though. The carne asada from Columbia didn’t taste so good, while Mexico ran out of carne asada by the time we went to it (we were there early though cause most of the places were still setting up). Then I buy a fruit punch from Peru that ends up tasting like yucky cinnamon jelly beans. Christina really loved the chicken kabob and wild rice combo from Iran. The 2 Iran guys thought she was ’special’. Dunno what thats suppose to mean in their country… (j/p)
The attractions were pretty cool too even though we missed some of them. The science place with all the little scientific toys for kids to play with is always interesting…then we went through some of the Museums like the Museum of Man, etc. since admission was free to all of them. The Car Museum ended up being closed around the time we got to it, all these other guys with us were bummed too it was sad. But the Aerospace one was still open and that place was cool. All the fighter jets and shit. Exiting the museum I finally found my true love. Dippin’ Dots Ice Cream! Actually, my goal was to get a smoothie or something sweet like that but we never found anything. But before I saw Dippin Dots Christina wanted funnel cake and this California Quivers qwas also selling like margarita looking thingies so I asked what they were and I ordered like a mango-strawberry and it tasted so damn good it made me horny. Turns out they only do catering/fundraising type things. SUCKS.
After that we watched the Christmas Story Tree performance which was entertaining. When we first got there, I noticed a bunch of Filipinos up stage singing, and one of them was Roger Bernales. Haha, it was his singing group. But yeah, he sang pretty good the only problem was they were too low. What was pretty freaky was that huge christmas tree would open up middway during a song and show like some scene from the Bible or something. When it first happened I thought it was gonna transform into like Optimus Xmas or something. Pretty crazy.
So we’re gonna go there again next year for our anniversary again I guess. Happy 5 yrs!
