Serenity

Some stupid thing I have is to watch a movie once every week. Preferably Thursdays. Anyhow, so I’ve been meaning to watch Serenity for awhile now, and finally got to it. I was interested to see how/if this movie was any good; because the movie is actually based on a TV series called Firefly that was cancelled only after a few episodes. I remember seeing the previews and my initial reaction was that it was gonna be sub-par. They showed the crazy looking girl that looked like the sister of the girl from The Ring going all Chuck Norris on people and then all the one-liners from the Captain. But I wanted to see it anyway.
Surprisingly enough, I liked the movie a lot. It was kinda how I was like with Batman Begins. I didn’t expect to be caught up in the film. On the flip side, Christina fell asleep when the movie was concluding, maybe some 20 minutes left.
At first the Captain bothered me, I didn’t like his character that much… and then they brought in his wife or whoever, and there was little to no backstory on that. We’re just suppose to be like… “OK, she can come along, she’s cool.”
Although I like Jewel Staite, she looked super duper young for the part. Then again, the whole crew was odd-looking. Jane (the big guy - I think his name is Jane) reminded me of the actor who played Sabretooth in the X-Men movie. But I’ll give Jewel her props because she was my ex-girlfriend back in Flash Forward (Ben Foster aka Tucker is now an Angel in X-Men 3). I don’t think Archangel ever had a love interest in the comic books, but how ironic would that be if Jewel was cast as his opposite. Oohhh the memories of Flash Forward… Disney should bring that TV show back.
Back to Serenity… so I liked the movie, and I think they should expand the series, if possible. The ending wasn’t all too thrilling, but at least they leave open the possiblity of something, anything. Kind of like The Matrix - then again, I think we all wish that The Matrix never spawned any sequels… it would have bugged me to think about what really is The Matrix and all but parts 2 & 3 didn’t really clear that congestion. Oh! If they do happen to expand the series or whatever… they should spice up Summer Glau (River Tam, aka the crazy emo girl who looks likes the girl from The Rings’ sister) so that she can look the hotness.

lol… “…goin all chuck norris on people…”
dude, I own this movie and have seen it about five time since January… it is OK on its own, but you really need to watch Firefly, the (aborted) series that the movie is meant to be the finale to. Anything that was confusing, any character development lacking, anything you think this movie was missing was explained in the series. FOX screwed Joss Whedon (who created this, along with a little series called Buffy TVS, and did a great run on Astonishing X-Men) and the show over by not promoting it well, then moving it all over the week and up against big ratings shows. I got the DVDs from Amazon for about $30 having only seen a few on Sci-Fi and it was worth every penny . Seriously, so yourself a favor and go watch them. Love them. Live them.
If by “Captain’s Wife” you mean Inara, she was a geisha that travelled with them for a while. She and the Cap had a Mulder/Scully “I love you but can’t say it” thing going on. Again, it’s all in the series.
Oh, and Archangel had a love in the comics - Psylocke!
