Sources say that Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s girlfriend/ best friend/ wife/ manager, has convinced Kobe Bryant to hang up his #8 jersey in favor of #24 next season. NBA rules have it so that you have to be with a team for at least 4 seasons before you can switch numbers, which Bryant has. Currently Jim Jackson holds the #24 jersey, but Kobe is willing to pay Jackson an undisclosed amount for it. ESPN
Possible reasons why Kobe may change his jersey from #8 to #24:
- All of his past jersey numbers he’s worn from grade school to playing in Italy add up to 24.
- Kobe is a big fan of LOST.
- Vanessa loves Keifer Sutherland in 24.
- There are 24 hours in a day.
- The white chick from Colorado is holding him ransom again and he needs the profits from the jersey change.

Although true, I see it as him saying its the next generation after 23, so 24, and Lebron will later change to 25 once Kobe is injured or retires.
this is stupid. kobe would not make any money by changing his jersey number, even if the #24 jersey was more popular, because he is a Nike athlete, and Adidas makes the NBA jerseys, so Kobe wouldn’t profit from higher sales.
